Fitness Marketing 101

Posted on

I am going to keep today’s article very short and very simple because it’s something I want you to remember forever.

People don’t buy features, they buy feelings.

Every single day another app, tool, or program hits the fitness market promising another “shortcut” or “silver bullet” to somewhere.

Do you want to:

  • Burn fat
  • Build muscle
  • Workout at home
  • Get healthier
  • Detox
  • Get better at your sport

Or any combination of the above?

Well, there’s definitely a feature-filled software that can help you out with all of that.

As fitness professionals who love the science behind training and nutrition we often get weighed down in the features of what we have to offer.

We get completely stuck in the “telling people what it is” part.

How many phases it is, what type of periodization you’re using, why it’s good for their demographic, what research study X said, how many days you will be training per week, what the goal of each phase is, etc.

But the honest truth is that people don’t care about what the details are about your program or what features are included in your software.

Why?

Because people don’t want to “do” — they want to “be”

They want to feel more energetic, know what it feels like to look amazing in a bikini, imagine themselves not having hip pain while playing with their grandkids on the floor, having the feeling of finally getting a full night’s sleep, and surprising all of their old friends at their reunion with how amazing they look now.

Among so many other things.

People don’t buy your features, they don’t care.

Next time you are negotiating a sale, try telling them how they will feel after your program.

I will take my commission cheque for that via email thank you.
